The broadcast media reform,
enshrined in the People’s Constitution of 1997, still misses two key
elements: the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the
Broadcasting Act. As the main organization campaigning on this
issue, the Thai Broadcast Journalists Association (TBJA) in the past
conducted various activities to raise awareness among media
professionals and the Thai public on the importance of a media
reform. In 2006, after organizing a series of workshops on this
subject, TBJA in partnership with FES, initiated the “Production
of Short Television and Radio Features on Broadcast Media Reform”.
Its aim was to promote the need for a successful and transparent
media reform process. The complete production, 10 different series
of television features and 30 series of radio features, was
distributed to more than 500 community radios and more than 200
cable T.V. stations throughout Thailand. By this, the Thai public in
Bangkok as well as in the provinces was able to learn about the
media reform, its importance and the current situation, and the
campaign was strengthened. |
