Training on Youth and Peace Building

Violence in the three southern provinces of Thailand, where the majority of the population are Malay Muslim, has been escalating in the past three years. In this conflict, the youth are an important population group to be recognized – be it as militants, victims, or peace builders. FES sees them as crucial agents for the peace building process since their chances lie in a peaceful rather than violent future. In this connection, FES organized a training on peace building for 26 students from different universities in southern Thailand and Bangkok from May 27-29, 2006. The participants were mainly Muslim, both male and female, whose hometowns are in the three southern provinces. The training team used participatory methods of training and introduced them to different subjects related to peace and non-violence, which were new to this group.
