Two thirds of the total labour force in Thailand work in the
informal economy and are not entitled to social security. Among the
most vulnerable are the home-based workers, their number being about
500,000. In late 2006, FES and its partner Homenet Thailand, who has
worked on this issue for many years, produced the brochure “Legal
Rights of Home-based workers in Thailand”. The brochure covers
international rights such as “decent work” and the “ILO Convention
177 on Home-based work”. Other topics are the progress of legal
framework for home-based workers in Thailand, and the movement
towards better social security by Homenet Thailand and its alliances
both at national and international levels. The publication was
distributed among those important groups and institutions, who are
able to help in policy advocacy.
