FES supports the democratic development of the
Kingdom of Thailand. With its conferences, publications and exchange
programs FES offers an open platform for a constructive and fruitful
exchange among social movements, government institutions and
politicians in Thailand. These activities are mainly based on the
constitutional rights of the Thai people as laid down in the
constitution of 1997. Significant issues are gender equality in
political representation and labour relations, democratic media
reform and human rights education. Projects include networking among
female politicians and women worker leaders, the support of
democratic media reform initiatives and close co-operation with
human rights institutions and journalists' associations. These
efforts go hand in hand with the dialogue with government
institutions and include the debate of critical and sometimes even
controversial issues, for which FES can serve as an independent
forum.
